Cee Lo Green under Twitter fire over 'Imagine' lyrics

Cee Lo Green came under fire from John Lennon fans on Twitter after tweaking the lyrics to the song "Imagine" during his New Year's Eve performance.

From the Huffington Post:
Charged with singing Lennon's famous solo-era tune on NBC's New Year's Eve show shortly before the ball dropped in Times Square , Green changed the lyrics from "Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too" to "Nothing to kill or die for, And all religion's true." The change didn't go unnoticed, and to preempt criticism, he soon tweeted, "Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyric guys! I was trying to say a world were u could believe what u wanted that's all."
That apparently didn't mollify angry Lennon (and "no religion") fans, who kept up the Twitter fire.

Meizu MX launches today, lines dotted all over China as usual

This time last year we witnessed the Meizu M9 madness in Shenzhen, so we decided to pay our favorite gadget city another visit for the MX launch today (still the 1.4GHz dual-core model, of course). Surprisingly, the lines in Huaqiangbei this time were significantly shorter, but we were told that this was due to tighter security measures as requested by the local authorities -- if you've seen last year's photos you'll know why. Instead, this year the customers are told to line up only when they get a phone call; but a few keen beans still arrived last night, and the first guy in Shenzhen even turned down hotel accommodation offered by Meizu. Yep, that's how you do a "first" properly, folks. Other big cities in China also saw a similar phenomenon, including Beijing, Guangzhou and even Hong Kong -- it's hard to miss the long line formed along the south end of Sai Yeung Choi Street outside the new Mongkok store.

Meizu also informed us that the MX's final hardware benefits from an improved camera (tweaked white balance and the lens now benefits from an oleophobic coating), while the software's been giving many enhancements since our review -- these are mostly the weird default settings we mentioned previously, such as the max clock speed out of the box (now at 1.4GHz instead of 1GHz) and the default video recording resolution (now 1080p instead of the weird 1,080 x 720 setting). Oh, and if you're still rocking the older M9, Meizu has confirmed that it'll also get the Ice Cream Sandwich update later this year, so stay tuned. More in the press release after the break.

Giants vs Cowboys: New York Lead NFC East Showdown, 21-7

By Barry Wilner, The Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. ? The New York Giants stood one quarter away from the playoffs, leading the Dallas Cowboys 21-7 Sunday night in their showdown for the NFC East title.

New York rallied from a late 12-point deficit to beat the Cowboys three weeks ago and take over first place in the division. Each team went 1-1 since to set up one of the biggest matchups in the history of this 50-year rivalry. The winner will host the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.

Dallas woke up on its first drive of the second half, an impressive 94-yard march featuring five completions by Tony Romo for 48 yards before he hit Laurent Robinson behind cornerback Corey Webster for a 34-yard touchdown. But Romo threw into double coverage on the next possession and Antrel Rolle picked off the pass.

D.J. Ware fumbled a reception three plays later, but Cowboys star linebacker DeMarcus Ware was offside. That didn't help the Giants much and Brandon Jacobs was stopped on a fourth-and-1 run.

The big defensive play did help the Cowboys, who reached New York's 19 as the period ended.

The Giants dominated the first half, taking a 21-0 lead Sunday night as Ahmad Bradshaw scored twice.

Eli Manning hooked up with rising star receiver Victor Cruz for a 76-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Bradshaw scored on a 5-yard run in the second period to cap a 10-play drive aided by a 14-yard pass interference call on cornerback Alan Ball.

It could have been bigger, but Lawrence Tynes missed a 40-yard field goal wide right.

Bradshaw eluded Abram Elam in the backfield to scoot to his right and into the end zone at the end of a 10-play drive that made it 14-0. The Cowboys then got moving for the first time, only to bog down when Romo, playing with an injured right hand, moved past the line of scrimmage to make a third-down completion. Dallas had to punt and New York took advantage.

Bradshaw's 29-yard run sparked an 80-yard drive late in the second quarter. Bradshaw eluded Bradie James over the middle for his second TD, a 10-yarder.

Dallas missed about a dozen tackles in the first 30 minutes and Dan Bailey missed a 52-yard field goal as the half ended.

Neither team did much offensively early on a wet but relatively balmy winter's night ? the rain stopped midway through the first quarter, then started up again in the second period but was gone by the third quarter. The Giants got pressure on Romo, and he was trapped for a 12-yard loss by Jason Pierre-Paul on Dallas' second series. That gave the second-year end 16 1/2 sacks.

Chris Jones' punt went out of bounds on the Giants 4, and then New York victimized cornerback Terence Newman twice.

Tight end Bear Pascoe jumped over Newman's attempted tackle to convert a third-and-9 for 12 yards. Three plays later, Cruz, who had a 99-yard catch-and-run TD against the Jets last weekend, ran a quick out pattern, then sped past Newman and, aided by fellow wideout Hakeem Nicks' block, ran untouched to the end zone. It was his ninth touchdown of the season and 22nd catch of more than 20 yards. Five of his TD catches have gone for 68 yards or more.

Defensive end Osi Umenyiora, back from missing a month with a high ankle sprain, got the Giants' second sack on the next Dallas possession. A third sack, by Jacquian Williams, came in the second period, and Umenyiora got another one in the third quarter.

Honest Cooking: 10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Champagne

Dazzle your New Years Eve guests with your knowledge about the golden wine from France. Tim Elliott from Honest Cooking with a list of 10 things you might not already know about Champagne.

With a new year fast approaching we have compiled some Champagne trivia to share while toasting your friends and family this weekend.

10) In the movie adaptations James Bond drinks Champagne more than any other beverage (nearly 40 glasses and counting).

9) The classic Champagne coupe was adapted from a wax mold made from the breast of Marie Antoinette.

8) There is about 90 pounds per square inch of pressure in a bottle of Champagne. That's more than triple the pressure in an automobile tire.

7) A Champagne cork reaches a velocity of about 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour) if popped out of the bottle. We recommend carefully twisting the cork out with a towel covering the bottle so no wine escapes and you don't hurt a bystander.

6) Actress Marilyn Monroe took a bath in 350 bottles of Champagne. We are sure it was not at the proper temperature for drinking, however.

5) The longest recorded flight of a Champagne cork is over 177 feet (54 meters).

4) Don't drink Champagne quickly or the bubbles will cause the alcohol to enter your bloodstream too fast often causing a headache. Savor your Champagne in small sips to taste the wine but also dissipate the bubbles before swallowing.

3) A Champagne riddler can turn as many as 50,000 bottles in a single day.

2) The largest bottle size for Champagne is called a Melchizedek and is equal to 40 standard bottles or 30 liters.

1) There are approximately 49 million bubbles in a standard sized bottle of Champagne.

Great sparkling wine is made all over the world but the most famous, and still unrivaled for quality, is made in France. We wish you a happy and prosperous 2012 no matter what you choose to celebrate with.

Mexico gangster crackdown falls short

MEXICO CITY ? So many gangsters, so little time.

Though President Felipe Calderon's five-year campaign has nailed dozens of crime bosses, many of Mexico's kingpins remain at large. Despite 50,000 dead and tens of thousands of arrests the resilient gangs seem as capable of havoc as ever.

Calderon leaves office in 11 months. The crackdown he couches as crucial to Mexico most certainly will be left unfinished. Most of the leading candidates to succeed him promise strategy changes, but their proposals remain vague.

"What worries me is that you don't have anybody getting to the heart of the matter," said analyst Alejandro Hope, until recently a senior official in Mexico's equivalent of the CIA. "What are we going to ask of the Americans? Is the intelligence interchange going to continue, an aggressive policy of extradition?"

Nearly 30,000 alleged gangsters have been arrested this year alone, though most will likely never be convicted of a crime. Security forces in three years have killed or arrested 22 of the 37 Mexico's most wanted gangsters.

They've included household names like Arturo Beltran Leyva, a leader of the Sinaloa Cartel arrested in December 2009, and Nazario Moreno, head of Michoacan state's La Familia, who security forces shot dead a year ago.

Like cockroaches

Still, kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, Mexico's most wanted gangster who walked out of a maximum security prison 11 years ago, remains on the lam. He continues to wield control, or at least some, over the Sinaloa Cartel, a loose federation of drug smugglers based in that Pacific Coast state.

Going after the most senior mobsters has been a policy of both U.S. and Mexican governments. But taking out lesser bosses - the ligaments that bind the criminal muscles - may prove far more effective, officials and analysts say.

"It's more difficult now because there are fewer capos," said analyst Hope. "Except for a few big bosses, the capture of a kingpin doesn't have much publicity impact."

Mexican federal police on Tuesday arrested Luis "Whitey" Rodriguez Olivera, 39, who U.S. officials accuse of trafficking tons of cocaine and methamphetamine into the U.S. Though unknown outside law enforcement circles, Rodriguez worked closely with the Sinaloa and Zetas gangs and had a $5 million U.S. reward on his head.

"What's needed is to clean, rebuild, heal and truly put the house in order once again," Calderon told Mexican naval officers in a speech in which he compared the hooligans to cockroaches infesting a home. "We weren't going to, nor will we ever, leave Mexican families to their fate."

The fever of bloodshed in Ciudad Juarez, the city bordering El Paso were nearly 10,000 people have been killed in four years, has begun to cool. Murders this year are off by a more than a third from last. Officials say that's because security forces have arrested key bosses of assassination teams from both the Juarez and Sinaloa gangs warring for control of the city.

Underlings, not bosses

And while many of their key lieutenants have been killed or captured, the two leaders of the Zetas - the violent gang based in the Mexican cities bordering south Texas - remain standing. U.S. officials contend the arrests of key underlings have weakened bosses Miguel Trevino, known as Z-40, and Heriberto Lazcano, El Lazca.

Officials point to Jesus Enrique Rejon, a soft-spoken alleged killer known as Mamito, and Raul Lucio Hernandez, "El Lucky" - both of whom were arrested this year and are described as linchpins directly under Trevino and Lazcano.

"When you get guys like Mamito or Lucky you have impact," a senior U.S. law enforcement official in Mexico said of the Zetas. "They're under tremendous pressure."

Banners hung on streets of border cities in December, presumably signed by Trevino, disavowed earlier messages attributed to him that challenged the U.S. and Mexican governments, claiming the Zetas are the only power that matters in the lands they control.

"We focus on our work," complained the banners, referring to the Zetas' murder, extortion and drug rackets. "The last thing we want is to have a problem with any government, either Mexican or much less American."

Yet the Zetas "work" has involved most of Mexico's many massacres this year. Investigators in April pulled nearly 200 bodies, most of them of passengers hijacked on inter-city buses, from mass graves in a town 90 miles south of the border at Brownsville. Several dozens alleged Zetas, as well as the town's entire police force, were arrested for the crimes.

Gunmen from the Sinaloa Cartel slaughtered nearly 50 alleged Zetas in the port of Veracruz in September. The Zetas responded by killing dozens of accused Sinaloa gang members in Guadalajara and elsewhere last month.

The carnage continued through Christmas weekend with gunmen, likely Zetas, killing 11 civilians on Dec. 23 near the Gulf port of Tampico. Ten more bodies were dumped in a small town south of Tampico on Christmas Eve, followed by 13 others left in a parked truck on Christmas Day.

Return of the PRI

Many Mexicans hope the next president will be able to negotiate a peaceful end to the violence. Polls suggest presidential candidate Enrique Pena Nieto will return the Institutional Revolutionary Party to power, a party that ruled Mexico most of the past century. Gangster violence was largely contained under the PRI's rule through deal making or more effective enforcement.

But analysts believe Calderon's successor will find it difficult to put the demons back in their box.

"I don't see that being possible in a macro sense," said Eric Olson, of the Mexico Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. "If you start from the assumption that there are a lot of differences between these trafficking gangs, it might be difficult to sit down and negotiate with them."
